DoD SAPRO Webinar
The 2014-16 DoD Sexual Assault Prevention Strategy: Understanding the Model Behind the Strategy
Date: 6 August 2014, 1400-1530 ET
Speakers: Dr. Suzanne Holroyd, DoD SAPRO Prevention Team Lead, Dr. Andra Tharp, U.S. Centers for Disease Control, Division of Violence Prevention, and Dr. Nathan Galbreath, DoD SAPRO Senior Executive Advisor.
Who Should Attend: This webinar presentation will benefit all who have responsibility for preventing sexual assault in military environments, including SHARP/SAPR program managers, senior leaders, installation and tactical commanders, Sexual Assault Response Coordinators (SARCs), and SAPR Victim Advocates (VAs).
Overview: Underpinning any effective strategy is an established model which serves as a guide for defining the elements of that strategy. In updating the DoD SAPR Prevention Strategy, DoD drew on a model utilized by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) called the socio-ecological model (SEM). CDC will provide an overview of the SEM which is used world-wide to combat issues such as HIV-AIDS, tobacco abuse, youth violence, and cancer. The discussion will address how DoD adapted the SEM to build the Sexual Assault Prevention Model, and how that led to the identification of the Prevention Program Elements, and then to the specific prevention tasks. With this background, practitioners will have a better sense of the concepts behind the Prevention Strategy and how they can adapt it to their local environment.
The webinar will include a 60-minute presentation, followed by 30 minutes of Q&A and discussion.
Registration
Registration for the webinar will close 1 hour before event start time.
